Pagellys erythirinus is a popular table fish regarded as a possible species for aquaculture production. Despite a growing commercial interest, only a few studies regarding its biology, reproduction and larval rearing have been carried out (Micale and Genovese, 1998; Spedicato et al., 1998); in particular, ontogenesis of digestive functions has never been investigated.
